Union Savings Bank was founded after the end of the Civil War by a group of Danbury’s leading citizens as the community bank to protect the savings of their families and friends in 1866. It was set up 9specifically as a mutual bank, to benefit the community. James S. Taylor was USB’s first President, a descendant of one of eight original founding families of Danbury.
